According to the university's research management, given the challenges in the field of sustainable and renewable energy production and the need to reduce environmental pollution, researchers have turned to searching for new solutions. One of the key tools in this regard is the use of advanced materials with porous and tunable structures, such as metal-organic frameworks. These structures are considered ideal models for the design of various materials, especially layered double hydroxides and their hybrids.

Layered double hydroxides derived from metal-organic frameworks not only have stability and tunable structure, but also have significant advantages in electrochemical applications. One of these advantages is the possibility of increasing the interlayer space of these materials, which can help accelerate the kinetics of electrochemical reactions. The additional space created in these structures aids in electron and mass transfer and provides better conditions for reactions.

Research has also shown that hybrids of metal-organic frameworks and layered double hydroxides offer more active sites for catalytic and adsorption processes. The study highlights the applications of these two classes of materials in energy storage and generation, including batteries and supercapacitors, as well as environmental implementations.
