University of Maragheh Professor Among Iran’s Top Scientists in 2024

Dr. Reza Abazari, a faculty member of the Chemistry Department at the University of Maragheh, has been named among the top scientific figures of Iran for the year 1403 (2024).

According to the university’s Research Office, the 9th National Scientific Excellence Awards ceremony took place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Espinas International Hotel in Tehran. The event was attended by Dr. Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, and Dr. Simayi Sarraf, Minister of Science, Research, and Technology.

This year’s selection saw a major change, with the number of awardees reduced from 110 to just 57, intensifying the competition. The top researchers were selected based on internationally recognized scientometric indicators, evaluating the quality and impact of their scholarly publications. The winners will receive direct research grants, strategic technology lab access, and postdoctoral researcher support, in accordance with the Iranian National Science Foundation’s guidelines.

Dr. Abazari's inclusion in this prestigious list highlights the growing academic strength of the University of Maragheh. In total, 57 top researchers and 3 leading universities were honored, with the aim of boosting Iran’s scientific standing and promoting research and innovation on both national and global stages.
