The Faculty of Basic Sciences, as the second faculty of Maragheh University, began in 2006 with the establishment of the Mathematics Department. In 2007 and 2008, the Departments of Chemistry and Biology were established, respectively. It has been fully established in the current building since 2010.
Currently, the Faculty of Basic Sciences accepts students in 22 disciplines and in three undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees in the form of three educational departments: Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. The total number of students studying in this faculty is about 1000. About 550 undergraduate students are studying in the fields of Mathematics and Applications, Applied Chemistry, Pure Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Cellular and Molecular Biology.
Master's Degree Programs: 13 (Mathematics: 4, Chemistry: 6, and Biology: 3) There are 13 active master's degree programs in the faculty, including:

Mathematics: Applied Mathematics-Numerical Analysis, Pure Mathematics-Analysis, Mathematics and Applications-Algebra, Mathematics and Applications-Geometry (Topology)

• Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Nanochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Applied Chemistry

• Biology: Microbial Biotechnology, Genetics, and Plant Physiology
•  
• At the doctoral level, there are 3 programs (Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Analysis, and Organic Chemistry)

5 postdoctoral researchers are engaged in research and study in the Chemistry Department.
The Faculty of Basic Sciences is proud to have 42 faculty members, many of whom are considered prominent scientific figures in Iran and the world.
Currently, the faculty is equipped with 15 classrooms, 16 educational and research laboratories, a computer site, a herbarium, and a meeting room to carry out research projects and provide educational and research services.
